Happy 4th of July!

There's a lot of red, white and blue around our neighborhood. And it's not just the flags flying from porches on the 4th. A lot of our neighbors are showing their support of local politicians who are running for city offices. That's great and we support and thank everyone who works to make Nashville such a great place to live.

But as I see a candidate's sign in one yard, I see their opponent's sign in another. And that's the point of my blog post on this Independence Day. Differences of opinion are what made America great in 1776.

I've recently joined a group called Better Angels. Their mission is to work together to depolarize America by trying to understand the other side’s point of view. People on the red side and the blue side actually talk to each other, and even though they may disagree, the conversations usually lead to some common ground. Cool idea, huh?

Now if we could just figure out how to make Jake McGee understand that the fireworks he hears tonight are not going to hurt him. Happy 4th. Be safe. Have fun!
